16x16 Pavers: A Larger Grid With a Modular Match
A 16x16 paver covers 1.78 sq ft (256 square inches), which works out to about 56 pieces per 100 sq ft before waste. It sits between the small 12x12 and the large 24x24: big enough to cut the joint count on a patio noticeably, small enough that one person sets it comfortably and it follows a gentle curve with modest cuts. Every piece in this collection is 1-1/4", so it is a patio, pool deck and walkway format rather than a driveway one.
Why 16 inches
The 16" module is the backbone of the French Pattern set (8x8, 8x16, 16x16 and 16x24), so a field of 16x16 can transition into a French Pattern area or take a border of 16x24 pavers without a change in joint rhythm. Straight grid, stack bond and a 45-degree diamond set are the usual layouts; a half-offset running bond also works and hides the slight size tolerance in tumbled stone. Where the deck meets the pool, 16x24 coping shares the 16" dimension so every other deck joint lines up with a coping joint.
Tumbled travertine in this size is the classic warm-climate pool deck; for a cooler palette, Ice White marble in a sandblasted finish keeps the surface bright without being slick. What coping goes with 16x16 pavers?
16x24 pool coping is the closest match, because it shares the 16 inch dimension and comes in the same materials. Set the coping with its 16 inch side along the pool edge and the deck joints will align with the coping joints on every other piece.
