12x12 remodel coping for resurfacing an existing pool

This is a specialist size. Every piece in the collection is the remodel profile, meaning the front edge drops down to form a lip that covers the old concrete cantilever or worn coping on a pool being renovated, so the deck does not have to be demolished back to the beam. If you are building new, you want the bullnose and eased-edge sizes in the main pool coping collection; if you are re-doing a tired 1990s pool, this page and remodeled coping in other sizes are where to look.

Why a square cap on a remodel

A 12x12 gives you 1 linear foot per piece with a full 12" of depth, enough to cover the old bond beam and a strip of the existing deck. The square shape means it can be laid as the first course of a 12x12 paver deck with joints running straight through, or turned to follow a gentle curve with small wedge cuts. All pieces are 1-1/4" thick, which keeps the added height over the old deck low. Marble options include Ibiza White, Bursa White, Corsica Cream and Diane Royal in leather or sandblasted finish; travertine covers Ivory, Walnut, Noce, Silver and Country Classic. For the same depth at twice the length, and a lower joint count on straight runs, see 12x24 coping. The stone pool coping buyer's guide explains how remodel pieces sit over the old edge.

Frequently asked questions

What does remodel coping mean on a 12x12 piece?

Remodel, or drop-face, coping has a thicker front lip that hangs down over the edge of the existing pool beam. On a 12x12 the flat top is 12 inches deep and the lip hides the old cantilever, so you can re-cap the pool without breaking out the surrounding deck.

Is 12x12 coping available in bullnose or 2 inch?

Not in this collection. All 12x12 pieces are remodel profile and 1-1/4 inch thick. For a bullnose or eased-edge cap at a similar depth, use 12x24, which is available in both thicknesses and both new-construction profiles.

How many 12x12 pieces cover my pool edge?

One per linear foot of perimeter. A 120 foot perimeter needs 120 pieces plus 10 to 15 percent overage for the corner and radius cuts that remodel work always involves.
