14x24 coping: extra reach over the bond beam

The 14x24 exists for one reason: a 12" cap sometimes comes up short. On pools with a wide bond beam, a thick shotcrete lip, or a raised beam that needs to be covered back to the first paver course, 14" of depth lets you hold a proper 1-1/2" to 2" overhang at the water and still land the back of the piece on solid beam. You get the same 2 linear feet per piece as 12x24 coping and the same piece count, just a wider cap.

Layout with pavers

There is no 14"-wide paver, so the deck joints will not track the coping's back edge; that is normal and rarely noticed because the coping is a separate border course. Most 14x24 orders go with 12x24 pavers or 24x24 pavers laid so the 24" joints align with the coping joints along the pool. Both 1-1/4" and 2" thickness are available, bullnose and eased edge in near-equal numbers. The marble pieces are leather or sandblasted in Diane Royal, Ocean Blue, Ice White, Bursa White, Corsica Cream and Tundra Grey; travertine covers Ivory, Walnut, Noce, Silver, Silver River, Silver Alaska and Country Classic. Frequently asked questions

When should I choose 14x24 over 12x24 coping?

Measure the bond beam. If a 12 inch piece would leave less than about 8 inches bearing on the beam after the overhang, or would not reach the first paver course, move up to 14x24. It costs nothing in piece count, since both sizes cover 2 linear feet each.

Does 14x24 coping come in 2 inch thickness?

Yes. The collection is split almost evenly between 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch, and each thickness is available in both bullnose and eased-edge profiles across all of the marble and travertine colors listed here.

What paver size lines up with 14x24 coping?

Along the pool edge, any 24 inch paver dimension lines up: 12x24, 24x24 or 24x36. The 14 inch depth does not match a paver width, but since coping is laid as its own border course, the back joint is simply a straight line the pavers butt against.
