Diane Royal Marble

Diane Royal sits between the whites and the true beiges. The ground is a warm off-white with drifts of pale grey and cream running through it, more like watercolor than the linear veins you see in Ice White. It is a forgiving stone on a big deck because no single piece shouts, and it hides pollen, dust and dried water spots better than a pure white. Being a marble, it is denser and more uniform in surface than tumbled travertine, and it is available in the leather and sandblasted finishes that suit exterior work.

Formats available

Coping accounts for 44 of the 84 products. Bullnose is the larger group, followed by eased edge, with a couple of remodel (drop-face) options for resurfacing jobs. Coping sizes are 4x9, 6x12, 12x12, 12x24, 14x24, 16x24, 24x36 and 16x48. Pavers come in 12x12, 16x16, 12x24, 16x24, 24x24, 24x36, 24x48 and 36x36 at 1-1/4" and 2". The 24x72 tread is used for step treads, seat wall caps and outdoor kitchen counters. Six of the smaller pieces are tumbled rather than leathered or sandblasted.

Matching coping to the field

The proportion rule we give builders is simple: the coping should be at least as long as the paver's short side. So 12x24 coping with 12x24 pavers or 24x24 pavers looks right, and 14x24 or 16x24 coping suits 24x36 and 24x48 fields. If the pool is freeform, drop to 6x12 bullnose and keep the pavers at 12x24 or 16x24 so the two scales stay related.
