Symra Limestone

Symra is the more restrained of our two cream limestones. The color is a light cream that stays consistent across a pallet, with very little of the tan movement found in Myra, and the grain is tight enough that the tumbled face feels smooth rather than sandy. Because the surface is so even, Symra suits minimalist landscapes where the stone should be a background: a plain cream field around a dark pool, or a large-format terrace beside a modern glass-and-render house. It sits in the ivory family on our color pages, right at the border with beige.

Sizes and thicknesses

Symra is cut in ten paver sizes: 6x12, 12x12, 12x24, 16x16, 16x24, 18x36, 24x24, 24x36, 24x48 and 36x36. The 1-1/4" pieces cover the pool deck and patio sizes, and the 2" pieces are concentrated in the 24-inch-and-larger formats. A common plan uses 2" 36x36 squares as a stepping path or a bare grid with gravel joints, with 1-1/4" 16x24 for the mortar-set pool deck. The 18x36 plank is a Symra format worth noting; laid in a staggered bond it produces a long, low pattern that works well along a pool's length. For a pool edge, choose a coping from the pool coping collection in a similar cream, since there is no Symra coping.

Using Symra on a project

Symra's uniform color gives you no pattern to hide inconsistent joints behind, so lay it with tight, even joints and a consistent grout or sand color a shade darker than the stone. Seal it promptly with a natural-look penetrating sealer; the sealing and maintenance guide applies to limestone as well. For a border, Serpeggiante or Pistachio leather limestone gives a subtle contrast in the same material, or use a dark brushed basalt strip. If the project is comparing a light limestone against a light marble, Moon Cream leather marble is the marble counterpart in nearly the same cream tone, harder and more uniform still. Symra is a limestone and should be cleaned only with pH-neutral products.
