Ivory Pavers

Ivory is the most-specified color in outdoor stone for one simple reason: light stone stays cooler underfoot. This page is the paver formats only, the flat field tile for decks, patios and walkways. Which ivory stone to pick

Travertine is porous and matte with the pitted face the stone is known for. Marble is denser, holds a crisper edge and shows no pitting. Both stay cooler in sun than gray or brown stone. For the same look with nothing to seal, the porcelain pavers include cream designs at 3/4".

Sizes and what they suit

• 16x16 and 12x12 for small patios and paths. More joints, which is forgiving on uneven grade.
• 16x24 is the standard pool-deck field size, usually laid in a one-third offset.
• 24x24 is the most-ordered modern format, in a clean grid or stack bond.
• 24x36 and 24x48 give a long plank look with fewer joints, and want a flat, well-prepared base.
• 36x36 is large-format. The pieces are heavy enough that they are normally a two-person set.

For a tumbled, old-world deck, the French pattern sets combine four sizes in one repeating layout and are supplied in Ivory.

Thickness: 1-1/4" or 2"

1-1/4" is the usual choice for mortar-set work over a concrete slab. 2" is what to use for sand-set decks, driveways and anywhere with freeze-thaw cycling, because the extra mass resists cracking and lets the paver float on a compacted base. Ordering and matching

Natural stone varies from lot to lot, so order a sample and look at it wet as well as dry. Every ivory shade darkens when wet, and the difference between Corsica Cream and Crema Pearl is easier to see on a wet tile than a photograph. If a supplier quoted you a trade name such as Tuscany Ivory or Durango Cream, the cross-reference of distributor stone names shows which of our colors is the close match.
